Istanbul’s Beta Yeni Han, where coffee was first roasted in the 16th century, hosted a special event to mark World Turkish Coffee Day. Organized by Beta Gıda for the third time, the festival explored the deep roots of Turkish coffee culture and unveiled Istanbul’s first coffee museum, Beta Yeni Han 1554 Coffee Museum.

A Celebration of Turkish Coffee Heritage

The World Turkish Coffee and Culture Day Festival was held on December 5th at the historic Beta Yeni Han. Coffee enthusiasts gathered at the location where coffee was first roasted in Istanbul during the 16th century.

The event featured lively discussions on the history of coffee, coffee stories, brewing techniques, and ceremonial traditions. Prominent attendees included Fatih Mayor Mehmet Ergün Turan, Turkish Coffee Culture and Research Association (TKKA) President Nuri Çolakoğlu, Beta Gıda Istanbul Branch Manager Hatice Uğur, and Arzum Electrical Appliances Chairman Murat Kolbaşı.

A Blend of History, Art, and Coffee

Renowned artist Mücella Balyemez showcased her unique Coffee Art pieces created using coffee. Attendees also enjoyed a reenactment of historical palace coffee ceremonies performed by the Beta Yeni Han team.

Highlights included a captivating video presentation detailing the restoration and transformation of Beta Yeni Han and cultural insights shared by the Beta Yeni Han marketing team. Visitors indulged in traditional Turkish coffee prepared on sand using copper coffee pots, alongside tastings of Beta Gıda's specialty products.

Istanbul’s First Coffee Museum Opens

The event also marked the grand opening of Beta Yeni Han 1554 Coffee Museum, Istanbul's first coffee museum approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. During Beta Yeni Han's restoration, a historic coffee roastery was discovered, now preserved as a museum.

The museum celebrates Turkish coffee as a UNESCO-designated Intangible Cultural Heritage, highlighting its historical and cultural significance. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring coffee production tools and the evolution of coffee culture in Istanbul, where the journey of coffee began.

Reviving Tradition with A’la Turkish Coffee

Beta Gıda unveiled a newly designed packaging for its A’la Turkish Coffee during the event. Inspired by the historic roasting techniques of Beta Yeni Han, the A’la Istanbul 1554 Turkish Coffee blend reflects the rich social fabric and legacy of the 16th century. The premium coffee offers an authentic taste, connecting visitors to history and culture.
