Renewed Violence in Aleppo and Idlib Increases Pressure on Overburdened Health Facilities

The escalating violence in northern Syria, particularly in Aleppo and Idlib, has intensified the humanitarian crisis, leaving millions of civilians in dire need. Doctors Worldwide has stepped up its operations in the region, urging the international community to take swift and decisive action.

Critical Situation in Northern Syria

The surge in hostilities has severely impacted essential infrastructure, including hospitals and healthcare centers, further compounding the plight of civilians. With over 120,000 people displaced in recent weeks and projections suggesting this number could reach 400,000, the demand for humanitarian assistance is overwhelming. Many displaced families have moved toward the Turkish border, straining already overburdened health services in northern Syria.

Doctors Worldwide Expands Humanitarian Efforts

Doctors Worldwide President Hakan Bilgin stated, "We are scaling up our interventions to address the growing health needs in northern Syria. Across 14 clinics in Aleppo and Idlib, we provide essential services such as health, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, social protection, and pharmacy support. To reach displaced populations, we’ve deployed new mobile health units serving civilians migrating toward northern Aleppo and Idlib."

Bilgin highlighted the immense challenges faced by displaced individuals, including lack of access to safe shelter and humanitarian aid. "We are accelerating efforts to supply medications and medical support to hospitals near conflict zones. In these trying times, we continue our struggle for peace and humanity," he added.

Call for Global Solidarity

United Nations reports reveal the devastating toll of recent clashes, with hundreds of thousands displaced and critical healthcare funding cuts forcing over 200 facilities to shut down. The ongoing crisis underscores the urgent need for robust international support.

Doctors Worldwide emphasizes that alleviating this humanitarian disaster requires coordinated, steadfast backing from the global community. "The humanitarian catastrophe in northern Syria can only be mitigated with strong, determined international action," Bilgin reiterated.
