Breaking Records: Şişecam Wins Prestigious Awards for $1.5 Billion Bond Issuance
Şişecam, a global leader in glass and chemicals, has been recognized with three major accolades at the Global Banking & Markets: CEE, CIS & Türkiye AWARDS 2024 for its record-breaking $1.5 billion bond issuance. The awards include “Bond Issuance of the Year”, “Corporate Bond Issuance of the Year”, and “Debt Deal of the Year – Türkiye”.
A Record-Breaking Achievement
In April 2024, Şişecam issued Eurobonds worth $1.1 billion in two tranches: $500 million with a 5-year maturity and $600 million with an 8-year maturity. The overwhelming demand from international investors prompted the company to increase the issuance to $1.5 billion in May.
Through its UK-based subsidiary Sisecam UK PLC, Şişecam successfully placed its bonds across global markets. This groundbreaking issuance attracted nearly $5 billion in orders, setting a new record in Türkiye’s corporate history. Despite challenging market conditions, the bonds were priced below prevailing Eurobond yields, underscoring the high confidence in Şişecam’s robust financial standing.
Global Participation and Strategic Partnerships
The issuance was led by financial giants Citigroup Global Markets Limited, HSBC Bank plc, J.P. Morgan Securities plc, and Merrill Lynch International. The bonds drew interest from around the globe, with 37% purchased in the UK, 36% in the US, 15% in Europe, and 12% in Asia and the Middle East.
